Every evening she feeds a family of six or seven in their Ilmington home: and how do you cope when some are meat eaters, some vegetarian, others are vegan and “everything has to be nut free!” As Alison politely puts it, “It can be a little bit difficult.” Then during lockdown, Alison discovered that her very modern shopping nightmare could be sorted with a fortnightly order from Ilmington Community Shop. “I didn’t realise I could place a Suma order through the village shop, or that I could order in such large quantities,” says Alison. “I like to support the shop. And the time I spend going through the Suma list saves me being on the road in my car and going round a supermarket. It’s about convenience for me. I buy in bulk because there are so many of us.” Alison is one of our super-Suma customers who rely on us for organic, dairy-free, vegan and plant-based options. She was already a fan of Suma Wholefoods, who supply everything from tins of beans to Little Choc Pots. For a mum like Alison, feeding youngsters in their 20s and a mother-in-law in her 80s, the Suma order saves the day. She raves about the dairy-free ice cream, the luscious yoghurts and the frozen fruits – “brilliant for smoothies!” Let Michele know (01608 682838) if you’d like to join in the fortnightly Suma order: the next deadline is this Friday, 30th April. As for Alison, she’s got even greater plans to make life easier: “At the moment I do all the cooking. But a new sign has gone up in the kitchen. Everybody Has to Cook One Night A Week.” All we can say is, Alison, good luck with that one…
