This weekend, we caught up with Wags and Fiona Firmin all the way from Freshford near Bath. Wags was for three years chair of the committee for “Galleries Shop and Café”, a community business in Freshford village. He even constructed their café building in his retirement. The couple loved Ilmington Community Shop and Café and wanted to hear all about our day-to-day operation. Like us, Freshford Shop has a rota of volunteers and is always looking for helping hands. Also like us, they took care of their local residents in lockdown with deliveries of essential supplies. Unlike Ilmington, they don’t sell cigarettes or magazines! “This is a wonderful place,” said Fiona, who grows vegetables in raised beds around Freshford’s Café. We’d like to see their place too, and Wags has suggested an exchange visit to Freshford one day…
