…we sometimes get asked at the Community Shop and Café. The short answer is no! Obviously, younger volunteers may need adult supervision, but all we look for is a willingness to pitch in. Izzy (Isabelle) Snowden was staying with Granny and Pop Snowden in the village for a few days and wanted to do something useful with her time. “I asked if I could help Granny yesterday – and today I’m back!” says 14-year-old Izzy from Hertfordshire. Granny Diana does one or two shifts a week in the Community Café. “This is my first work experience,” says Izzy, who loves to play football and is interested in a career in law. She certainly learns fast: operating the till, stocking shelves and becoming a dab hand at Hot Chocolate with all the Trimmings. “It’s been a fun experience,” she grins. “Everyone’s been really friendly!” Izzy, you can come back any time – we welcome our volunteers with open arms. We offer training, support and the chance to socialise and work as a team. Call us on 01608 682838 or pop in for a chat – it doesn’t take long to join in the fun!
