Our lovely volunteers turned up in all the right gear this week for a set-to in the community café back yard. We found them diligently pruning shrubs, weeding and tidying up for the winter. Pictured (from left) are Jo Johnson and Karen Peachey, both keen Ilmington gardeners, and Jane Neate who organised the autumn clear-up. “We are clearing behind the bins and reducing the laurel in the car park,” says Jane. Michele, our shop and café manager, treated the team to a bowl of hot soup at lunchtime. “There will be another gardening party next spring when we dig new beds around the terrace,” says Jane. “I want to add more flowers, a chamomile lawn and another thyme bed. I’d like more pollenating plants to bring wildlife and colour into the garden.” Your Spring Gardening Party invitations won’t be in the post and you will need secateurs rather than a suit. But we will let you know on our monthly newsletter. To sign up for our news and keep up with volunteering opportunities, call us on 01608 682838.
