
Gerv lives close to us and he pops in once, twice or three times a day to buy bits and pieces, but also to chat. One of the most important things we do as volunteers is to make time for people. By listening and talking, we realise we belong to each other, like family. Seen here enacting a story about a soldier and a lady, Gerv is taking both the parts. He’s a writer of comic poetry on subjects as various as nits and Boris Johnson. He’s extraordinarily well read and has been all over the world with the RAF. Gerv will be 90 soon, but he’s got the energy of a 19-year-old and we love that he comes in to see us, sharing his experience, his wit and his enthusiasm. This is what the community shop is all about
