From the first light of lockdown in March 2020, Ilmington Community Shop has supported vulnerable villagers with a dedicated delivery service. The home deliveries are still going strong this winter, as we continue to support the shielding residents of Ilmington and neighbouring Darlingscott. We reckon we’ve delivered around 550 boxes of fresh vegetables, groceries and household supplies in the past nine months and we’d like to thank the extended team of pickers and packers who work hard on a Tuesday and Friday preparing the orders. Then there are the nine volunteers on the delivery team, who get their twice-weekly call-out via a special What’s App group. It’s a very personal service: volunteer pickers have even described greetings card designs over the phone so customers can make a choice! “I like doing these deliveries,” says volunteer Wendy Lewis-Edwards, “because I’ve known most of the people since I moved into the village and, as much as making the delivery, it’s lovely to catch up with them.” Email orders@ilmingtonshop.co.uk with an order if you, or someone you know, is self-isolating or vulnerable and would rather not walk into the shop.
