…arriving at the Eastwood Farm Marketplace counter in our café this morning. “So I’m looking for two nice steaks.” Shenington farmer Jonathan Court has some beautiful rib eyes to offer and Bryan leaves with Valentine’s all wrapped up. All the meat on sale has been reared on Eastwood Farm in Shenington, a dozen miles from us. “We have pigs, lambs, cattle and free range chickens on the farm,” says Jonathan. “The animals go for slaughter in Long Compton, then to a butcher in Hook Norton and back to us, so food-miles wise, it’s about a good as you can get.” From next Friday and every weekend, Ilmington Community Shop will be stocking joints of meat, whole chickens and other specialities produced by Eastwood Farm. You can take pot luck, or you can place an order by the Wednesday and your meat will be ready on Friday or Saturday for collection. How about lamb shank or a gammon joint, black pudding, Chicken Kiev or beef rib? We also order vegetables from Drinkwater’s in Ebrington, don’t forget, to keep your menu as local as can be. We’re not just here for Valentine’s! ❤️
