“It’s an ancient craft,” says Penny Vigers as she tries to explain to us the art of willow weaving.

“It’s so relaxing when you hit the sweet spot. I sit in the garden and weave – it’s very zen.” You’ll be able to see what Penny means at our forthcoming Willow Weaving evening at Ilmington Community Cafe. On Friday 24th March at 7pm, Penny is staging a willow weaving demonstration, with the chance to have a go (using bendy green willow) and maybe win or buy some willow shapes: think butterflies, stars, hearts, garden obelisks and bird feeders. “When it goes right,” says Penny, from Kineton, “there’s nothing quite like it. It just slows you down and you let the willow work itself.” Tickets – from the shop – are £7.50 to include your first glass of wine, beer or soft drink. Penny describes herself as a “community artist” and that just the kind of artist we love
