Beverly moved to Tredington from Hampshire just before the pandemic, which made it hard for her to meet people, get a job and settle in. When she spotted an advert for volunteers at the Ilmington Shop, she decided to give it a go and hasn’t looked back.
Beverly has been volunteering on Mondays from 12–3 for over five years. Her typical shift involves restocking the shelves after the weekend and tidying the stock room. Mondays might sound quiet with the café closed, but it can get surprisingly busy although with two volunteers on, it’s always manageable.
Her favourite part? The people. She loves the banter with regular customers, chatting with workmen popping in for lunch, and pointing holidaymakers in the right direction.
Beverly would wholeheartedly recommend volunteering. You can offer as many or as few hours as suits you, the till is straightforward, and there’s always someone on hand to help if you need it.
