Saturday’s Picnic on the Green was a joyful expression of what it means to live in a real community. Friends and neighbours gathered on Upper Green outside Ilmington Community Shop and picnics were duly spread. The Flowers of Ilmington Morris side lit up the day with traditional music and dances created 150 years ago. Folk wrote messages of gratitude for our Thank You Tree and children ran circles on the grass. Tombola, books and bric-a-brac stalls took coins for good causes. There was homemade cake and hand-stitched bunting, there was sunshine and church bells. And over it all, the feeling that this ancient place had been holding its breath this past 18 months: patiently waiting for us to come back together and acknowledge how much we mean to each other. Thank you all who joined us and everyone who helped make our picnic just perfect
