It’s the Booker Wholesale delivery, a panoply of products to fill the shelves of our community shop. The sound of the lorry’s back-up beeper is like an early alarm system that sets the shop team in motion. Out comes the paperwork and the trestle table and in come Craig and Shiji (in this case), manhandling a cage stacked high with boxes: soft drinks and toilet rolls, ground coffee, cat food and cheeses, frozen chips and biscuits – you name it, it’s probably there. Items duly received and ticked off, it then takes a few hours to find a place for everything without disturbing the smooth running of the shop. Thanks to the managers who order it all, the volunteers who stack the shelves and the customers who shop local at their very own community shop
