Here sporting the gorgeous green pinnies of Ilmington Community Shop are friends Gill Gray and Mary Brain, who’ve been volunteering with us for years. “We used to be on different shifts,” says Mary, “but then Covid hit and we started working together. We have fun and never fall out!” We are holding two volunteer recruitment mornings in July and aim to demonstrate just how rewarding the role can be. You’ll make new friends and meet people. You’ll get to play with the shop till and press the button for a cappuccino. You’ll also get to wear the famous green apron and become instantly more attractive to whichever sex you want to attract… Have we gone too far? “I volunteer because it’s giving something back to a facility I appreciate very much,” says Gill. “And of course there’s the social aspect: keeping in touch with people on a regular basis, especially when you’re on your own.” Whatever your reason for volunteering, come and find out more from 10am to 12 on Saturday 2nd or Wednesday 6th July.
