…said one of our recent customers as she chose her table in the Community Café. “The altar was over by the till!” It turns out that Ann and Michael Sabin exchanged their vows in Ilmington Catholic Church exactly 55 years ago today. As they settled in for a scone and a toasted tea cake, they shared memories of growing up in the village and their wedding day on 18th November 1966. “It was so foggy,” said Ann, “and my father and I had to keep driving round the village because the registrar hadn’t turned up.” How did they meet? “Badly,” quips Mike. Ann, who hailed from Ebrington, was driving through Ilmington with her dad just as Mike, from Mabels Farm, was herding his cows along the road and blocking their way. “My father was tooting his horn but he never moved those cows off the road,” said Ann. The couple live near Malvern now, but love to come back to their home village where “everything has changed so much.” We love to have them back. Happy anniversary, both!
