Moraig and Michael, members of Stratford-Upon-Avon Art Society, had set up picnic chairs and easel and were focusing their artistic gaze on our old church building. “It’s such a lovely spot,” said Moraig, who lives near Wimpstone. “I often pop down for some bits and pieces from the shop.” Michael called in for takeaway coffee and two slices of Rosie’s luscious lemon cake. We were equally keen to sneak a preview of their works in progress. Sketching and first strokes were well underway and our painters were thoroughly enjoying their creative outing on Ilmington’s Upper Green. “The lemon cake was brilliant,” said Michael. “The coffee was wonderful too. My day’s not complete without a good coffee.” The Art Society is holding an exhibition of works at King Edward’s School in Stratford from 17th to 28th August, from 10.30am every day
