Our foxy guest on Saturday was part of a walking party covering 33 miles in aid of the Plunkett Foundation, the charity that supports community shops, cafes and pubs. They left the Fox at Loxley at 7am, arriving at Ilmington Community Café in time for well-earned refreshments. “We want to raise money for the Plunkett Foundation and the great work they do supporting community businesses,” said Paul Jennings through the hood of his fox costume. Paul was the chair of the committee that reopened The Fox as a community pub. Walking with him were Malcolm Ankrett (left), another volunteer from Loxley, and Chris Cowcher (centre), Plunkett’s head of policy and communications. Also in support was Gemma Sills, Plunkett’s engagement manager, promising to walk dressed as a strawberry the following day if they raised enough funds. The Plunkett Foundation not only helped us to set up Ilmington Community Shop and Café, it provides ongoing advice and support on all aspects of our operations. Mr Fox downed his coffee and slinked off towards the community shop at Bretforton. We await news of a strawberry strolling around Oxfordshire on Sunday…
