
working their regular shift at Ilmington Community Shop and and Café. The Snowdens have lived in the village for 40 years and raised their family here. They now have four grandchildren. “It’s important that the shop and café is a community facility first,” says Diana, “but it’s also lovely to welcome people from outside.” The couple have been involved with the community shop from the start. Jeremy currently helps the committee with HR matters and Diana bakes for our crack village cake team. “I tend to man the shop, but float into the café as needed,” says Jeremy. “We did regular shifts during lockdown. It made it much easier to have two of you round the counter.” Diana agrees: “We like working together, we can shout at each other, can’t we?” Her Whole Orange Spice Cake is to die for. “You cook a whole orange first and blitz it, saving some for the butter icing. It’s dear old Mary Berry and you can’t go wrong with Mary Berry, can you?!”
