Aged 14, William Balchin has been working in the Community Shop as part of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme. “Volunteering, Physical and Skill are all part of my Bronze Award,” says William, from Stretton on Fosse. “Also the Expedition of course.” William, a pupil at King Edward VI School in Stratford-upon-Avon, is playing floorball for the Physical element, learning cookery as his Skill and joining us for the Volunteering. “I’m doing two hours on a Saturday for at least three months,” he says. “It’s very enjoyable. I’m more competent now than I was before!” We love to welcome younger volunteers, helping them to establish an interest in volunteering that can last a lifetime. And we certainly hope William stays with us for longer than three months if he wants to, because he is already a valuable member of our team…
